Short Description:
The activity of making ceremonial prayers, especially the making of canang, involves a series of steps that are carried out with care and cleanliness. Canang is an offering in the form of a round decoration made of janur (coconut leaves) and filled with various types of flowers, leaves, and other symbolic materials.
First, Hindus who will be making canang will prepare all the necessary materials. These include janur, fresh flowers, green leaves, and additional ingredients such as fragrances, incense, and seeds.
Then, they will clean and tidy the coconut leaves (janur) by cutting off any unnecessary parts. After that, the janur will be woven into a round shape as the base of the canang.
Next, the canang makers will start filling the janur with fresh flowers, green leaves, and other materials. The selection of these materials usually involves certain meanings and symbolism, relating to offerings to the gods or spirits worshiped.
During the process of making canang, makers will pay attention to detail and harmony in the arrangement of the materials. They will create beautiful and harmonious patterns, following traditional aesthetic rules passed down from generation to generation.
Once the canang is completed, the makers will clean themselves and prepare for the prayer ceremony. The completed canang will be placed in the designated places.
